In past years, conventional plant breeders endeavored to increase cotton quality. To overcome the constraints that conventional breeding programs comprised, new genetic engineering technologies were introduced. Since then, many cotton events resistant to pests, disease, pesticides, abiotic stresses and also high quality of lint have been produced and commercialized around the world which has confronted a noticeable public acceptance. Today and with the advent of next generation sequencing methods in favor of easier identification of suitable candidate genes for their manipulation and novel targeted genome editing technology (CRISPR/Cas9), outstanding prospects regarding cotton breeding have been developed. In present article, history of cotton breeding including genetic engineering and genome editing researches which led to production of resistant cultivars to biotic and abiotic stresses and high quality fiber are reviewed.}, keywords = {Transgenic cotton,resistance to disease,resistance to pests,genome editing,CRISPR/Cas9}, title_fa = {مهندسی ژنتیک پنبه: از گذشته تا امروز}, abstract_fa = {پنبه یکی از گیاهان زراعی مهم و اقتصادی در دنیا و به عنوان چهارمین محصول مهم صنعتی در ایران به شمار میرود. در گذشته، تلاشهای زیادی جهت اصلاح کیفیت پنبه توسط اصلاحگران سنتی صورت گرفته است که به علت محدودیتهای موجود در روشهای سنتی، استفاده از روشهای مهندسی ژنتیک رواج یافت. به دنبال رواج روشهای نوین، گیاهان تراریخته پنبه مقاوم به حشرات، بیماریها، علفکش، تنشهای غیر زیستی و همچنین الیاف با کیفیت بالاتر تولید شدند. امروزه، تعدادی از این ارقام تجاریسازی شده و از پذیرش عمومی بالایی در سراسر جهان برخوردار هستند. اکنون نیز با ظهور روشهای توالییابی نسل جدید و تسهیل شناسایی ژنهای کاندید و مناسب جهت دستورزی و وجود روشهای ویرایش ژنوم (CRISPR/Cas9) با قابلیت ایجاد تغییرات هدفمند در ژنها، افق تازهای در حوزه اصلاح ژنتیکی پنبه ایجاد شده است.  این مقاله ضمن مروری بر تاریخچه اصلاح پنبه و بررسی موانع موجود، به تحقیقات صورت گرفته در زمینه تولید ارقام مقاوم به تنشهای زیستی و غیر زیستی و افزایش کیفیت پنبه با روشهای مهندسی ژنتیک و ویرایش ژنومی میپردازد.}, keywords_fa = {پنبه تراریخته,مقاومت به بیماری,مقاومت به حشرات,ویرایش ژنوم,CRISPR/Cas9}, url = {https://jab.uk.ac.ir/article_1750.html}, eprint = {https://jab.uk.ac.ir/article_1750_dcf84aea585cba49a09150ee4c7e6ef3.pdf} }
