In this study karyological characteristics of five accessions of <em>Papaver</em> <em>bracteatum</em> Lindl were investigated using Aceto-Iron-Hematoxylin staining. Karyologycal characteristics including chromosomes number, chromosomes length, long and short arms length, arm ratio index, relative length of chromosomes and total length of chromosome set were measured in 10 mitotic cells. The results showed that all of the five accessions were diploid (2n=2x=14), with two pairs of metacentric and five pairs of submetacentric chromosomes. Chromosome 1 had a secondary constriction and satellite at the end of its short arm. According to the Stebbin’s assymetric categories of Karyotype, the 14299, 16986 and 23157 accessions were located in 2A class and 14305 and 14307 accessions were located in 3A class.
